Private Swimming Lessons for Kids in Pinellas County

It’s never too early to start swimming lessons. Our Baby Swim Lessons start at 6 months of age. Classes can have up to 4 Parent/Child pairs in the water with the instructor. This makes me a more laid back, fun swimming class for babies. We also offer baby classes that focus more on water safety, with just the instructor in the water with the child. Our Toddler and Children swim lessons interlace water safety with different swimming techniques. Our goal is to help children develop a healthy respect for the water, while gaining confidence and having fun, too!

Common Swimming Lesson Questions We Get Asked

  • How long does it take to learn how to swim?

This is the million dollar question! Learning time varies for every student, just as how long it takes 1 person to learn anything. Most of our students see significant progress within the first round of 8 lessons, but we recommend continuing lessons until you are comfortable with the swimmer’s ability. We recommend scheduling lessons frequently (3-5 times per week) to see best results. Practicing between lessons greatly speeds up the process. The benefit of having an in-home swim instructor is you get to see exactly how the instructor teaches swim lessons. Many of our parents practice these techniques during fun, family pool times – which we find greatly accelerates the learning process. The use of “floaties” or swim vests greatly hinder swim progress – so we strongly suggest discontinuing the use of these devices.

  • How soon should I schedule my lessons?

As soon as possible. Time slots fill up quickly in the warmer months and we book on a first come, first serve basis. For our more popular time slots (evenings) we recommend booking up to a month in advance. If you’re more flexible with your schedule, we may be able to get you in within a week or two.

  • Do I have to be in the water with my child?

No – the only time we recommend parents being in the water with the child is in our “Mommy & Me” style type classes for infants. For toddlers and older children, we recommend only having the instructor in the water to allow a bond of trust to be established between student & teacher. If you would like to have hands-on instruction with the teacher, you are more than welcome to jump in the last few minutes of class to learn what the instructor does, first hand.

Your Public Service Announcement Regarding Water Safety in Pinellas County

Source: Hand in Hand Water Safety Awareness Foundation

Drowning kills more than 4,000 people in the United States each year. It’s the leading cause of death for children under the age of 4, and the second leading cause of death for children under the age of 14. The main 3 factors the lead to drowning are:

  1. Lack of Swimming Ability – Swimming lessons decrease risk of drowning by 88%
  2. Lack of Barriers – Install a pool fence that is at least 4 feet high with self-locking gates
  3. Lack of Supervision – Drowning is quick and silent – always know where your child is and avoid distractions during water activities
