Goggles…. Yay or Nay?
Source: Houston Swim Club
Should my child use goggles while in the water? Great question. Simply put, goggles are a personal preference! They are not needed to swim or learn to swim, but if a child has a hard time with water being in or on their face, it is advised that goggles are used to prevent them from getting upset. At a certain level in a child’s swim journey, it is advised that goggles are not used frequently as to not have the child rely on them to swim. Goggles are prohibited from certain activities and drills for safety reasons. If a child is swimming laps, goggles are required so they do not hit the wall or other swimmers.
In conclusion, the use of goggles is completely up to the swimmer. For some children, water on their face might be an unfamiliar sensation and scare them. In this case, it is okay to swim with goggles as to not create panic in the child. More advanced swimmers can swim without goggles leisurely, but when swimming laps, goggles are required for safety reasons.
