Because every class is customized to the individual swimmer’s needs, we will focus on what that swimmer needs and develop a lesson plan based on that. Your swimmer may be more on the fearful side, so our lessons may be more fun and encouraging, teaching the child that swimming is enjoyable but having a healthy respect for the water. Or your swimmer may be on the wild side. In that case, our lessons are a bit more structured with a serious emphasis on water safety. With St. Augustine being surrounded by the water, swimming lessons are imperative for swimmers of all ages.

Water Safety Tips for Parents in the St. Augustine area
Source: Mom saves 2-year-old from near drowning after floatie slipped off
We advise parents to “Say No To Floaties” – These types of flotation devices give a false sense security to the child, and the parent.
Children do not understand that the flotation device to what keeps their head above water. We’ve seen children jump into pools before putting on the floaties because they do not know that they will sink.
An Oklahoma mother recently had to perform CPR on her own 2 year old son after the child removed the floatie and then ran back to jump or fall into the pool. The mother advises parents to “Pay attention, even if the kids know how to swim.”
Children that get used to wearing floaties learn to swim in an upright position, making the learning process for swimming without floaties extremely difficult. Children will sink in a vertical position. Instructors have to spend multiple lessons correcting the child’s form to a horizontal, streamline position.
