Do You Know What Drowning Looks Like?
Drowning doesn’t look like it does on TV. There are no screams….no splashes….It’s….silent….completely….SILENT!
The victim is too busy panicking and trying to get air to do anything else.
You can’t scream when you are trying to breathe or when you breathe in water.
You can’t lift your arms and thrash at the top of the water if you can’t hold yourself up in the water to begin with.
Drowning happens almost entirely under the surface of the water.
If you were to look under the water, you would see the victim looking as though they were trying to climb a ladder. You would see their chin up and you may see their head bobbing just above or right at the surface of the water.
All of this is done in SILENCE and all of it happens way too FAST!
Drowning can happen (especially with littles) in as little as 20-30 seconds. To put that into perspective, that’s the time it takes to go get a towel, to answer the phone, or to send a text.
Now you know what to look for.
Now you are better prepared to save a life.
Now be a voice.
Help others learn. Let’s move the needle. Let’s save little lives.
